I’m new to Media Communications this semester because of failure to do what was required of me in another class, so this a make up class for me. We have been currently been studying epic movies (most notable being Lord of the Rings). As a wrap-up project to this unit we have had to make a comparative power point of two epic movies. I had recently gone to see the new James Cameron movie Avatar, (awesome). So as the last assignment for this unit we have to write what we thought about the other presentations we have seen in class.

Reece Massey had done a movie I am particularly fond of, Marvel’s Ironman. In opinion Marvel is the best comic publishers ever. Any comic can be considered an epic. All the requirements that make a superhero have a lot of the same characteristics of an epic story. The way Reece made a lot of connections between his two movies was very well done. Finding those lines between the dots was a challenging obstacle for me to trounce. One of the things that could have been enhanced was his use of pictures. He used some slides for pictures only when he could have put them behind the text for a more attractive presentation. His initial slide was very well thought out. He had Tony Stark and Ironman’s mask as opposite profiles pictures next to each other. This really caught my eye immediately, (also my adoration for the infamous hero help my interest). He was able to keep his attention focused on his presentation for the preponderance of the time.

Justine on the other hand had done Harry Potter. For English being her second languge she speaks it better than some Americans I know. She found great parallels between the movies such as Gandalf and Dumbledor. They both die but nether really leaves. All of Dumbledor’s lessons keep Harry on his mission to kill Voldemort. And Frodo never sees Gandalf again till the end of the last movie.

Brant’s Star Wars presentation was my favorite, probably because he got all of the names in the movies right and new what he was talking about. A interesting parallel he pointed out was that at the end of both stories ends on a volcano. Well in Star Wars it was an entire volcanic planet but there was lava in both. Brant’s use of pictures was a little better than some others but in my opinion most needed improvement.
